It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Fernando “Fernie” Peña.
Mr. Peña passed away on February 12, 2020. He started his forensic career with Texas Department of Public Safety on July 5, 1982 and retired on August 31, 2003, as a Forensic Scientist VI. He committed a total of 21 years to the forensic community with the Texas Department of Public Safety in the El Paso and Corpus Christi laboratories. Mr. Peña was very active in helping SWAFS get established. He served on the SWAFS Board of Directors in 1990 and served on the Awards and Benevolence committees. He also hosted a SWAFS Conference in El Paso, Texas in 1997.
Mr. Peña was the SWAFS President in 1998-99.
